UOB Holds Exhibition on “Sociological Culture and Sustainable Development Goals”
The University of Bahrain’s Department of Social Sciences in the College of Arts organized an interactive exhibition titled: “The Sociological Culture of GCC States and the Sustainable Development Goals.” The event was held as part of the requirements for the Introduction to Sociology and Sociology of the Gulf courses.
The exhibition aimed to provide students in the Bachelor of Sociology program with an opportunity to apply the indicators of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and link them to the societies of the GCC. This aligns with these countries’ 2030 economic plans, their adoption of the SDGs, and the impact on local communities. Additionally, it sought to study the shared cultural characteristics among Arab Gulf states from a sociological perspective.
Through interactive presentations, games, and participatory activities, the students were able to convey the concept of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and connect them to solutions from social theories via interdisciplinary approaches. This contributed to enhancing their understanding of theoretical concepts and leveraging their diverse skills and academic backgrounds.
The exhibition was held under the supervision of Dr. Ahlam Rashid Al-Qasimi, Head of the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Bahrain’s College of Arts, and Dr. Dunya Ahmed Abdulla, Assistant Professor in the department.
