UOB Marks International Translation Day with Symposium on AI Challenges

The College of Arts at the University of Bahrain organized a symposium titled “Translation and Artificial Intelligence: Challenges and Potential Applications in Humanities in the 21st Century” on Tuesday (30 September 2025), in celebration of International Translation Day, observed annually on September 30 under this year’s global theme: “Translation: Shaping a Future You Can Trust.”
The symposium featured several speakers. Dr. Nuri Rahuma Ajeli, Associate Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Bahrain and a specialist in translation, compared artificial intelligence translation methods with human approaches in the field of literary translation.
Under the topic “Will Artificial Intelligence Replace Humans in Translation?” Dr. Amr Nour El Din Hassan, Assistant Professor in the same department, explored the advantages and disadvantages of relying on AI in translation. Meanwhile, writer and translator Mohammed Al-Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Mubarak discussed large language models in the field of translation.
The symposium was moderated by Dr. Ghada Ahmed Jassim, Head of the Department of English Language and Literature from the College of Arts.
