UOB Participates in “Age-Friendly Capital” Day
The College of Health and Sports Sciences at the University of Bahrain participated in the “Age-Friendly Capital” day, organized by the Capital Governorate at the Sitra Mall, in celebration of the International Day of Older Persons.
Students from the college conducted vital screenings for the elderly, which included measuring blood pressure and blood sugar levels. They also led a series of physical and therapeutic exercises designed to help alleviate common health problems among older adults, such as joint pain and mobility difficulties. Additionally, they provided specialized consultations to support the seniors’ mental health, helping them cope with the changes associated with aging and build their self-confidence.
The event aimed to acknowledge the role of older persons in society, highlight the challenges they face in healthcare, social integration, and age-based discrimination, and raise awareness of their rights. It also sought to provide them with the necessary support to continue their active role in the community, thereby contributing to the strengthening of partnerships between public, private, and civil society sectors to achieve sustainable development.
