UOB Publishes a book on “The System of Human Rights”
The book “The System of Human Rights in International, Regional, and National Legislation”, authored by Dr. Lulwa Ahmed Hasan Al-Khalifa, Assistant Professor in the Public Law Department at the College of Law, University of Bahrain, in its first edition, was published in 2024.
The book aims to equip students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of human rights and their international applications. It outlines main sources of public and private human rights, highlighting key conventions concerning women, children, people of determination, and refugees, as they are among the groups most vulnerable to human rights violations in society.
Furthermore, the book examines specific conventions regulating certain rights, such as those concerned with the prevention of racial discrimination, the condemnation of torture, and cruel and inhuman punishment. It clarifies the content of these conventions, the obligations states undertake upon ratifying them, and the mechanisms for their implementation.
The book also addresses the topic of sustainable development through a chronological review of all international declarations and resolutions on development, in addition to the steps taken internationally to ensure compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals.
In addition to the above, the book covers regional systems for protecting human rights and their implementation mechanisms. Finally, it addresses the national level within the legal system of the Kingdom of Bahrain by clarifying human rights in the kingdom’s national legislative sources and the national mechanisms for their protection and enforcement.
