*UOB Registers First Patent with World Intellectual Property Organization*

In a step that reflects the University of Bahrain’s commitment to fostering a culture of academic excellence and innovation, the university registered its first patent with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a landmark achievement that adds to the university’s growing record in the fields of scientific research and innovation.

This accomplishment is part of the University of Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its position as a leading research institution and to develop innovative scientific solutions in the health and medical sectors. These contributions aim to improve the quality of life and enhance health for individuals and society.

On this occasion, Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, President of the University of Bahrain, emphasized that this achievement reflects the national university’s key role as an educational and research institution. He noted that the university strives to provide significant scientific contributions that align with the Sustainable Development Goals and Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030, thereby putting the Kingdom on the map as a global innovator.

The UOB President mentioned that the university recently witnessed a notable development in the quality of its research and innovative projects, particularly in applied fields such as research related to improving healthcare. He stated that patents are among the most prominent indicators of a university’s advancement in research and development, and they contribute to raising the university’s ranking and status on both the regional and international levels.

Dr. Leena Khonji, Dean of the College of Health and Sport Sciences, highlighed the College’s achievement, and noted that such accomplishments open wide horizons for cooperation with medical and industrial institutions. They also enhance opportunities for strategic partnerships that support innovation and development across various vital sectors. Dr. Khonji added that this success embodies the University of Bahrain’s leading role in supporting academic excellence and innovation in the field of healthcare.

In this context, Dr. Magda Bayoumi, Head of the Nursing Department at the College of Health and Sport Sciences and the lead inventor of the registered patent, confirmed that this achievement serves as a strong incentive for university affiliates to deliver further qualitative innovations. These innovations will advance scientific research, invention, and the improvement of healthcare quality in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the wider region. Dr. Bayoumi also pointed out that this achievement adds to the series of accomplishments made by the University of Bahrain, thanking the university’s administration for its continuous support and follow-up.
