UOB Students Engage with “Together Against Smoking” Campaign

The “Together Against Smoking” campaign attracted active participation from students, who engaged enthusiastically in the activities and health consultations offered.
The campaign aims to raise students’ awareness of the health risks associated with smoking and various types of shisha, while encouraging them to adopt positive behaviors and avoid harmful habits. This initiative aligns with the university’s vision of promoting a health-conscious campus environment and supports Bahrain’s national strategies for tobacco control.
Dr. Kawthar Al-Eid from the Ministry of Health delivered a lecture highlighting the health hazards of smoking and shared latest strategies to help individuals quit.
The campaign featured interactive activities managed by faculty members and students from various health programs, providing informative and educational experiences. Highlights included: a breath test measuring carbon monoxide levels, blood pressure and heart rate checks, oral health station, nicotine dependence assessment, virtual reality simulation demonstrating the dangers of smoking, anti-smoking awareness corner, the “Breathe Better” fitness activity, a psychology and sociology station on “How to Say No to Smoking,” displays of smoking cessation tools, a “Inside a Smoker’s Body” exhibit, and a station showing the impact of smoking on lab results.
This campaign reflects the University of Bahrain’s commitment to its social responsibility and its dedication to cultivating an informed student body capable of making decisions that enhance public health and overall quality of life.
