WHO Renews Accreditation of University of Bahrain Nursing Department as a Collaborating Centre for Nursing Development for the Next Four Years
The World Health Organization (WHO) has renewed the accreditation of the Nursing Department in the College of Health and Sports Sciences at the University of Bahrain as a Collaborating Centre for Nursing Development in the Eastern Mediterranean Region for four more years — an achievement that reflects the university’s scientific and professional standing at both the regional and international levels.
On this occasion, Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, President of the University of Bahrain, affirmed that the renewal represents a new strategic achievement reflecting WHO’s continued trust in the university. It also highlights the university’s contributions to health education, scientific research, and professional capacity-building in nursing and midwifery, he said, affirming the university’s commitment to preparing qualified professionals in accordance with international standards.
For her part, Dr. Leena Mohammed Khonji, Dean of the College of Health and Sports Sciences and Director of the Collaborating Centre for Nursing Development, noted that over the past few years the Centre has implemented a number of initiatives to support the Organization’s efforts in investing in the health workforce and advancing the “Health for All” goal. She also highlighted the Centre’s plans to expand regional and international cooperation and to prepare health leaders and nursing professionals capable of addressing future health challenges.
Dr. Assad Hafeez, Acting WHO Representative in the Kingdom of Bahrain, also welcomed the renewal of the designation of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing Development, affirming that combining WHO’s global role and standards with the expertise of the Kingdom of Bahrain will open broad prospects for high-quality training. This will also contribute to strengthening the capacities of the health workforce, thereby reinforcing the foundations of universal health coverage and turning “Health for All” into a tangible reality.
