- Committee Formation
A Sustainability Committee is formed at the University of Bahrain, chaired by Dr. Mazen Mohammed Ali (Director of the E-Learning Center), and includes 12 members from various colleges and departments, consisting of faculty, administrative staff, and a student representative.
- Committee Responsibilities
The committee is tasked with the following:

- Developing a governance framework for environmental, social, and economic initiatives aligned with the University’s vision and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Integrating sustainability goals into the University’s strategy and developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Monitoring resource consumption (energy, water, waste) and promoting green practices on campus.
- Measuring and reducing the University’s carbon footprint and preparing regular reports.
- Proposing innovative financing models for sustainability initiatives to ensure their continuity while reducing reliance on government funding and diversifying support sources.
- Aligning initiatives with Social Return on Investment (SROI) to justify long-term funding.
- Raising awareness of sustainability culture within the university community through campaigns and student-led and media activities.
- Improving the University’s ranking in global sustainability indices, such as UI GreenMetric, THE Impact Rankings, and QS Sustainability Rankings, in coordination with the University Rankings Committee.
- Committee Term
The committee’s term is set for one year from the date of issuance of this decision.
- Reporting
The committee shall submit biannual progress reports (in October and March) to the University President via the official committee email address.
- Implementation
This decision is effective from the date of issuance and is to be implemented by all relevant parties.
