At “Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare Education and Practice” Forum
Experts Recommend Enhancing AI Use in Health Education at UOB
A number of experts and specialists in the field of artificial intelligence participating in the “Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare Education and Practice” forum, organized by the College of Health and Sport Sciences at the University of Bahrain (UOB), recommended the necessity of developing students’ competencies in the field of AI and enhancing its integration into health education. The participants, at the conclusion of the forum’s proceedings emphasized the importance of expanding the horizons of cooperation between the health, technology, and industry sectors.
The forum hosted a selection of local and international experts in artificial intelligence and clinical simulation, including: Dr. Jassim Al-Haji, President of Artificial Intelligence Group and Executive Advisor at HH Shk Nasser AI Research & Development Centre; Regional Director MEA, India, and Central Asia at Gaumard Scientific; and Professor Sharon Weldon, Professor of Health Simulation and Workforce Development at the University of Greenwich, UK, and President of the Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH).
A scientific discussion session on the opportunities and challenges of AI in health training and clinical simulation also featured Dr. Reem Al-Ansari, Director of the Medical Skills and Simulation Center at the Arabian Gulf University; Professor Sharon Weldon; Dr. Carlos Chidiac; and Dr. Abdulla Qaddumi from UOB’s College of Information Technology.
The Dean of the College of Health and Sport Sciences, Dr. Leena Mohamed Khonji, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. She affirmed that organizing the forum aligns with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Vision 2030 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, explaining that the university has established strategic frameworks to integrate AI across various disciplines, particularly health sciences, to prepare cadres capable of facing future challenges. She added that the college is preparing to inaugurate the Advanced Clinical Simulation Skills Center in the coming weeks, which will contribute to employing AI and virtual reality technologies in health education, while emphasizing a commitment to professional and humanitarian ethics in healthcare delivery.
