UOB’s Board of Trustees Holds Its Sixteenth Regular Session Meeting
Commending the Steps Taken by The University To Continue Education In Light Of The Pandemic
Under the chairmanship of His Excellency Dr. Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Bahrain (UOB), the University’s Board of Trustees held today a meeting for its sixteenth regular session on Wednesday (09 December 2020), in the presence of Her Excellency Mrs. Faiqa bint Saeed AlSaleh, Minister of Health, His Excellency Mr. Ahmed bin Zayed Al-Zayed President of the Civil Service Bureau, His Excellency Prof. Riyad Yousif Hamzah, President of UOB, Chief Executive Officer of the Urban Planning and Development Authority, Her Excellency Mrs. Nouf Abdulrahman Jamsheer, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education for Resources and Services, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Mubarak Juma’a, Assistant Secretary-General for Evaluation and Accreditation at the General Secretariat of the Higher Education Council, Her Excellency Dr. Mona Mohammed Al-Balushi, Her Excellency Sheikha Tifla bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, and His Excellency Dr. Mansour Muhammad Sarhan.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Council congratulated the students of the Kingdom of Bahrain for achieving an unprecedented educational achievement in the results of the TIMSS 2019 tests, which were recently announced by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA). As these exams witnessed the participation of many countries that fulfilled the conditions of participation that require meeting many of the precise conditions and standards, and thus the performance of Bahrain's students at the school level moved from low-medium to medium-high at performance, in accordance with international standards.
After that, the Council started the agenda, where it approved the previous agenda, and viewed a report submitted by the University President, Prof. Riyad Yousif Hamzah, on the implementation of the decisions of the previous meeting. Also, the Council reviewed the presentation made by the University President on the progress of work and achievement, what the university had done for the continuity of education in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, and what measures had been taken to ensure the uninterrupted functioning of the University. The Council commended the administration of UOB on e-learning and the support students receive in this regard, and the continuity of distance learning. Also, the Council reviewed the implementation of the strategic plan for the development of UOB 2020-2025. In addition, the University President presented a number of the steps taken in the previous period to the Council, such as the digital transformation of the University and work done to develop the website.
