Student Voice at the University of Bahrain
Empowering students as active partners in institutional governance, decision-making, and the future of our university
Under the leadership of University President Dr. Fuad Mohamed Alansari, the University of Bahrain is committed to ensuring that students are essential partners in shaping the university’s direction, policies, and campus experience. Through formal and structured governance channels at every level, students engage directly with university leadership and contribute meaningfully to institutional decision-making.
Student Council
The Student Council is the officially elected representative body of the University of Bahrain student population. Council members are elected by their peers to represent student interests at the institutional level, serving as the primary voice of students in university governance.
Role & Responsibilities
- Represent student interests at the institutional level
- Communicate student concerns, ideas, and feedback to university leadership
- Participate in discussions on academic affairs, campus services, student wellbeing, and institutional development
- Organise student-led initiatives, events, and advocacy campaigns
Engagement with University Leadership
The Student Council meets regularly with University President Dr. Fuad Mohamed Alansari and senior leadership to discuss institutional priorities, campus improvements, and matters affecting the student experience. These meetings ensure that student perspectives are directly heard and considered at the highest level of university governance.
College Student Councils
Every college at the University of Bahrain has its own Student Council, ensuring that student representation is embedded at every academic level. College Student Councils provide students with a direct voice in matters specific to their college, including academic programmes, facilities, and student experience.
Structure
- Each college elects its own student council through student elections
- College councils serve as a bridge between students and college deans, department heads, and faculty
- Issues raised at the college level can be escalated to the University Student Council for institutional-level action
- College councils organise academic, social, and extracurricular activities within their respective colleges
This layered governance structure ensures that student voices are heard from the department level all the way up to the University President, creating a comprehensive and inclusive system of student representation.
Student Advisory Committee
The Student Advisory Committee provides an additional formal governance channel through which students engage directly with the University President on strategic and operational matters.
Structure & Function
- Comprises student representatives from across the university
- Convenes with President Dr. Fuad Mohamed Alansari once every semester
- Serves as a platform for open dialogue on strategic institutional matters including sustainability, academic quality, campus life, and student services
- Provides direct input into university decision-making and policy development
Impact
Recommendations and feedback from the Student Advisory Committee are taken into consideration by university leadership when developing policies, planning campus improvements, and setting institutional priorities. This direct line of communication between students and the President reflects UOB’s belief that effective governance requires active student participation.
“Our students are not just learners — they are partners in building the future of this university. Their voices, ideas, and aspirations are at the heart of every decision we make.”
Scientific Societies & Student Clubs
Beyond formal governance channels, the University of Bahrain supports a vibrant ecosystem of scientific societies and student clubs that enrich campus life, promote academic and cultural engagement, and contribute to institutional goals.
College Scientific Societies
Each college operates its own scientific society — including Arts, Law, IT, Engineering, Business Administration, and Science — fostering academic enrichment and professional development within each discipline.
Student Clubs
A diverse range of student clubs — including Fine Arts, Music, Photography, Theater, Media, Chess, and the Friends of the Environment Club — provide creative, cultural, environmental, and recreational outlets for all students.
Coordination & Support
All societies and clubs operate under the Students’ Activities Department, with dedicated office spaces across campus and direct coordination with university departments, faculty, and external partners.
A Multi-Layered Approach to Student Voice
The University of Bahrain’s student governance model operates at three interconnected levels: College Student Councils ensure representation at the academic level, the University Student Council carries the student voice to institutional leadership, and the Student Advisory Committee provides a direct strategic channel to University President Dr. Fuad Mohamed Alansari. Complemented by 13 active scientific societies and student clubs, UOB ensures that every student has a meaningful platform to be heard.
