13.3.5 Environmental education collaborate with NGO

Does your university as a body collaborate with NGOs on climate adaptation?

The University of Bahrain collaborates with NGOs on climate adaptation through its partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). On September 25, 2024, UOB launched the SDGs Academic Program with UNDP to embed sustainability and climate adaptation into its curriculum. The initiative integrates SDG content into English courses (20%), introduces specialized courses in environmental science and law, and provides dual certification from UOB and UNDP. This collaboration strengthens climate literacy, institutional capacity, and supports Bahrain’s sustainable development strategy. It directly advances SDG 13.3 by improving education and awareness on climate change mitigation and adaptation, demonstrating formal cooperation with an international NGO to prepare future leaders for the green economy.

University of Bahrain and UNDP Launch SDGs Academic Program

The University of Bahrain (UOB) actively collaborates with international NGOs to advance climate adaptation and sustainability education. A key example is UOB’s partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), a global NGO, through the launch of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Academic Program on September 25, 2024.

This initiative integrates SDG-related content into UOB’s academic framework by:

  • Embedding sustainability themes in English language courses (20% of content).
  • Introducing specialized courses in environmental science and environmental law.
  • Providing dual certification from UOB and UNDP for all participants, ensuring foundational knowledge in climate change and sustainability.

Impact and SDG Alignment:

  • Directly supports SDG 13 – Climate Action, specifically Target 13.3 (education and awareness on climate change mitigation and adaptation).
  • Demonstrates Indicator 13.3.5 through formal collaboration with UNDP to strengthen climate literacy and institutional capacity.
  • Positions UOB as a regional leader in embedding sustainability into higher education curricula.

This partnership reflects UOB’s commitment to fostering a culture of sustainability and preparing future leaders for the green economy, while reinforcing Bahrain’s national strategy for innovation-driven sustainable development.
