University of Oxford Publishes UOB Research on Virtual Sensory Experiences

The University of Oxford has published an innovative study by University of Bahrain scholarship researcher Khawla Abdulwahab Alhassan on multi-sensory dining experiences in virtual environments. This work appears in a prestigious academic book featuring leading experts in sensory technology, marking it as one of the most significant international studies in this emerging field.

The study done by Researcher Khawla Abdulwahab Alhassan, as part of her PhD requirement in Creative Technology, department of Media, focused on futuristic artistic visualizations of shared dining experiences in the metaverse, to connect individuals from different countries through multi-sensory interaction (smell, taste, air flow, and touch).

Her study combines Virtual Reality (VR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) and is one of the first studies to explore virtual socialization through shared meals. The research highlights the potential of VR to strengthen social connections while emphasizing the need for balance between virtual and real-world experiences to preserve authentic human interaction.
